Suno Launches v6 Models in Bid to Transform Music Creation Landscape

In a bold move to reshape the music industry, AI music generation company Suno has unveiled its new suite of models, collectively branded as ‘v6’. This innovative launch comes after months of securing licensing agreements with major players such as Warner Music Group, BMG, and Believe, positioning the company to potentially redefine how artists and their labels collaborate and earn revenue.
Chief Product Officer Jack Brody expressed the company's ambition to not only expand the music industry but also to create a system that benefits artists of all sizes. “It’s really kind of making good on this long-term effort to… grow the pie in a way that benefits everyone,” he stated. The v6 models promise to provide artists and users with tools to create songs across various genres, utilizing specific instructions to modify lyrics or generate music from text, audio, images, and videos.
Among the offerings, the flagship v6 model is available to Suno’s Pro and Premier subscribers, while a more experimental ‘wild’ variant caters to those who wish to explore creative boundaries. The entry-level ‘mini’ version, which is free for all users, is already being touted as the best music generation model available, according to Brody. He emphasized that while v6 and v6-wild are premium offerings, the free mini version surpasses the competition’s paid models.
Despite this ambitious rollout, Suno faces significant challenges, including ongoing copyright lawsuits from major labels like Sony Music and Universal Music Group, and recent controversies involving artists like Mary J. Blige. Brody acknowledged the skepticism from artists regarding the technology and stressed the importance of demonstrating its value to gain their trust. He believes that firsthand experience with the v6 models can help change perceptions as the company continues to engage with artists about their creative needs and rights.
