Suno, an AI music generation platform often surrounded by controversy, has announced a significant partnership with Believe Music, a prominent independent music company based in France. This collaboration aims to enhance the options available to artists in the evolving music landscape.
New Opportunities for Artists
As part of the agreement, music from artists associated with Believe and its digital distribution arm, TuneCore, will be integrated into innovative new music models developed by Suno. Artists who opt into this program will receive compensation for their work, ensuring their rights are safeguarded. In addition, these artists will benefit from Suno's recently launched transparency tools and download limits.
A Shift in Distribution Policy
This partnership marks a notable change from Believe's April 2026 decision to prohibit the distribution of music generated by Suno's previous models. Denis Ladegaillerie, Founder and CEO of Believe, emphasized the importance of adapting to new technologies while supporting artists. He stated, "The partnership we worked on with Suno for Believe and TuneCore unlocks powerful tools for all artists and labels."
Meanwhile, Mikey Shulman, CEO of Suno, expressed excitement about the collaboration, highlighting that it will significantly enhance opportunities for independent artists. He noted, "This partnership will significantly expand opportunities for independent artists, giving them access to creative tools, new paths to distribute their music…".
Challenges Ahead
Despite these positive developments, Suno continues to navigate a turbulent relationship with major players in the music industry. The company is currently involved in legal disputes with Universal and Sony over copyright issues, and just recently faced a lawsuit from Grammy-winning artist Jason Isbell regarding unauthorized use of identities in music creation. A German court also found that Suno violated copyright laws, underscoring the challenges that lie ahead for the platform.
