In a recent collaboration with Salt & Straw, Taco Bell introduced the Churro Ice Cream Taco, a dessert that aims to evoke nostalgia for the beloved Choco Taco. However, this new offering may not quite capture the magic of its predecessor.

Launched on September 1, 2026, the Churro Ice Cream Taco presents a blend of dark chocolate, churro-flavored ice cream, and puffed rice, priced at $4.99 in some locations. The previous attempt at a taco dessert from Taco Bell and Salt & Straw in 2024 allowed customers to customize their treat, but this iteration comes pre-assembled.

During a taste test at a Taco Bell in San Diego, the anticipation was palpable. Unfortunately, the initial visual experience was underwhelming, with a taco that appeared cracked and damaged. The first bite proved to be a slippery affair, as the taco fell apart almost instantly, revealing the churro ice cream within. The ice cream itself, rich and spiced with cinnamon, delivered a delightful flavor. However, the waffle cone, lacking in crunch, left much to be desired.

The dark chocolate added a nice contrast, but the overall texture of the taco was disappointing. The puffed rice did little to enhance the experience, and the cone was so soft that it failed to provide the satisfying crunch one would expect from a waffle cone.
