Target Set to Make Waves with New Store in the Hamptons

Target is gearing up for a significant new venture as it prepares to open its first store in the Hamptons, taking over the former Kmart location in Bridgehampton. The grand opening is scheduled for October 11, following a soft opening period of about six days to iron out any operational issues. An exclusive invitation-only event will precede the grand opening, allowing local officials and the store team to celebrate the occasion.
The new Target store spans approximately 90,000 square feet and is anticipated to create around 140 jobs. This opening is poised to attract a wide range of customers, from year-round residents to seasonal visitors, appealing to both working-class families and affluent summer vacationers. With limited competition in discount retail within the region, aside from a nearby TJMaxx and Home Goods, Target is aiming to capture a substantial market share.
Following the decline of Kmart, which shuttered its doors in September 2024, Target aims to offer a more service-oriented experience. The new store will feature conveniences such as drive-up order pickups and same-day delivery options through the Target Circle 360 membership program. Additionally, it will house a CVS pharmacy and a Starbucks, enhancing its appeal to shoppers.
In alignment with local aesthetic guidelines, the store's design reflects the coastal vibe of Bridgehampton. Located at 2102 Montauk Highway within the Bridgehampton Commons shopping center, this location marks a new chapter for retail in the Hamptons, with the nearest Target currently over 20 miles away in Riverhead, New York.
