Mother Opens Stylish Beverly Hills Store After Fire Delay

By Editor • August 19, 2026 • 1 min read

After a harrowing setback caused by one of Los Angeles's most devastating fires, the clothing brand Mother has finally unveiled its first physical store in Beverly Hills. The launch comes nearly 19 months after a catastrophic blaze in January 2025 halted plans for their original Pacific Palisades location, which was set to debut just days before the fire struck, destroying thousands of structures.

Co-Founder Lela Becker reflected on the unfortunate timing, stating, "We were obviously upset and disappointed. But because of the level of devastation, we were just like, ‘We’re one little dot amongst everything.’ So, we just sort of left it behind us and moved on." The new store, located on N. Canon Drive, was not initially planned but has turned out to be a perfect fit for the brand.

Designed by the L.A.-based firm Mahte, the 3,850-square-foot space blends elements of a California living room with a social clubhouse and a whimsical “cabinet of curiosities.” The interior features a warm color palette and vintage-inspired architecture, aiming to create an immersive shopping experience. Becker describes the store, affectionately called “The Motherland,” as a reflection of the brand's identity.

While the brand is renowned for its denim, Becker emphasizes a broader range of offerings, including ready-to-wear items and accessories, with over 90% of production still in Los Angeles. One of the highlights of the store is the rotating “Cabinet of Curiosities,” showcasing unique artifacts and exclusive merchandise. A communal conversation pit and a café offering drinks inspired by European rest stops create welcoming spaces for customers.

Plans for a Pacific Palisades location are underway for next year, along with a new store in New York City set for 2027, allowing Mother to continue its growth while maintaining a unique feel for each neighborhood.
