Taylor Frankie Paul Reveals Shocking Engagement and Drama After Bachelorette Filming

By Editor • September 3, 2026 • 2 min read

Taylor Frankie Paul has opened up about her unexpected engagement during her season of The Bachelorette, revealing details that viewers will not see on screen. During a recent episode of Hulu's Get Real podcast, the reality star shared her experiences with fellow cast members Jessi Draper, Mikayla Matthews, and Mayci Neeley.

As the conversation unfolded, Draper inquired if Paul had any romantic encounters in the fantasy suites, to which Paul shook her head. However, Draper noted similarities between Paul’s reported final pick, Doug Mason, and her ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen. Both share similar initials and hail from Idaho, prompting a curious discussion among the group.

In a surprising twist, Paul confirmed that Mason had indeed proposed to her, stating, "He did get down on one knee and proposed. I was shocked." Despite her surprise, she revealed that after the proposal, she returned home and reconnected with Mortensen, hinting at a rekindled relationship. "I don’t know how it led to it, but he came over," Paul said, alluding to speculation about their interactions.

Controversy Surrounding Bachelorette Season

Originally set to debut on March 22, Paul's season of The Bachelorette was abruptly pulled by ABC just three days prior due to the release of footage related to her 2023 arrest following an altercation with Mortensen. Paul pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, and as part of a plea agreement, other charges were dismissed. This incident was later featured on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

After the cancellation of her season, Paul faced scrutiny from Utah authorities regarding domestic violence allegations involving Mortensen. Despite the investigations, the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office ultimately chose not to file new charges against her.

Looking Ahead

Production of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives was also halted in March due to the fallout from these events, but the show is set to premiere on Hulu on September 10. Paul’s co-star, Miranda Hope, expressed her well-wishes for Paul, indicating that they have not been in touch recently but hoping for her well-being as the new season approaches.
