TCL Unveils Innovative P80 Ultra and Pro: A New Era for E-Readers

By Editor • September 4, 2026 • 2 min read

TCL has launched two remarkable smartphones, the P80 Ultra and P80 Pro, at IFA 2026 in Berlin, redefining the way we interact with screens. These devices seamlessly blend vibrant AMOLED displays with TCL’s unique NXTPAPER technology, allowing users to switch between vivid colors and a paper-like experience.

One of the standout features is a thin slider located along the frame, which users can adjust to alter the screen's saturation. By sliding it down, the 6.83-inch display transforms into a warmer, textured surface that mimics the feel of reading from a printed page. This is especially beneficial for those engrossed in e-books or late-night proofreading, as it maintains sharpness while providing a more comfortable reading experience.

Max Ink Mode: A Quiet Reading Experience

Further enhancing the reading experience, the phones offer a Max Ink Mode that strips the display of color entirely, reducing distractions by silencing notifications except for essential calls and texts. This thoughtful design not only promotes a focused reading environment but also extends battery life to approximately one week, making it ideal for avid readers.

Advanced Display and Design Features

To ensure high-quality visuals, TCL has equipped these devices with a 1.5K AMOLED panel capable of reaching 3,200 nits brightness and supporting the full DCI-P3 color range. The addition of a Nano Crystal Shield coating minimizes glare, allowing users to read comfortably even under direct sunlight. The premium aluminum frame enhances durability, earning an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, alongside MIL-STD-810H certification for drop resistance.

As for camera capabilities, the P80 Ultra boasts a dual-camera setup with a 50-megapixel main sensor and a 50-megapixel periscope lens for 3x optical zoom, while the P80 Pro features a simpler dual-camera arrangement with an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens. The P80 Ultra is priced starting at €549 (approximately $635), while the P80 Pro begins at €429 (around $500), initially rolling out in Europe before expanding to Latin America later this year.
