Technical Glitch Disrupts U.K. Air Traffic, Leading to Nearly 300 Flight Cancellations

A significant technical issue in the U.K. air traffic control system on September 8 resulted in the cancellation of nearly 300 flights, according to Flightradar24. The National Air Traffic Services (NATS) announced that engineers were urgently addressing the malfunction, which primarily impacted departing flights.

During the crisis, major airports including Heathrow, Stansted, and City in London, as well as facilities in Manchester and Birmingham, experienced widespread disruptions. Passengers were advised to verify their flight status directly with their airlines as the situation unfolded.

EasyJet, one of the budget carriers affected, confirmed that several of its flights could not operate, leading to delays across Europe. The NATS later reported that a fix had been implemented and the flight system was beginning to recover, although the root cause of the issue remains unclear.
