Trump Advocates for a Unified Ireland During Irish Open Visit

During his appearance at the Irish Open golf tournament in Doonbeg, US President Donald Trump reaffirmed his support for a unified Ireland, stating that it seems natural for Northern Ireland to join the Republic of Ireland. His remarks come in the wake of a firm response from the UK prime minister's office, which maintained its stance on Northern Ireland remaining part of the United Kingdom.

Addressing reporters, Trump commented, "You have Northern Ireland and you have Ireland, and it would seem to me that one of the naturals of all time is to put them together." He indicated that discussions about Scottish independence would be reserved for another day, saying, "That one I won’t talk about yet. I’ll save that for another day." His comments echo sentiments expressed the previous day after a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin.

In addition to his views on Irish unity, Trump also discussed a domestic policy proposal, promising a $5,000 'dividend' for US adults if the Republican Party retains control of Congress after the midterm elections. Despite skepticism from various quarters, including legal experts and some Republicans, Trump maintained that the U.S. economy could support this initiative, claiming, "We can easily handle that because we’re taking in so much money." He added, "The Democrats can’t make that pledge because it would all go to hell right away, we’d go into a depression."
