Trump Proposes Naming Strait of Hormuz After Himself Amid Ongoing Conflict

By Editor • September 2, 2026 • 1 min read

In a bold declaration, President Donald Trump suggested on Wednesday that the Strait of Hormuz should be renamed the "Trump Strait," following recent US military actions against Iran. This proposal comes amidst rising tensions and near-daily attacks on vessels in the strategically vital waterway.

"Now that we have it under USA control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT???" Trump posted on social media, asserting that the region is secure for American interests. His comments followed a US airstrike in Iran that resulted in the deaths of at least four individuals, including two children.

In retaliation, Iran launched missiles at US bases, contributing to a spike in oil prices, which have surged about 4 percent. Despite claims from US officials that oil transit through the Strait is unaffected, prices at the pump have risen significantly, hitting $4.12 per gallon.

This rename suggestion is just one of Trump's efforts to assert dominance in a conflict that has extended beyond its anticipated six-week duration, now entering its seventh month. Meanwhile, he continues to face criticism over the war’s prolonged nature and its consequences.
