UN Food Aid Cutbacks Hit West Bank and Gaza Amid Financial Crisis

The World Food Programme (WFP) announced on Tuesday that it will significantly reduce its assistance in the occupied West Bank due to critical funding shortages, halving its support from 400,000 to 200,000 individuals.
This decision comes as international aid organizations, particularly the United States, scale back their contributions, prompting a wider funding crisis. The WFP plans to cut food assistance, including cash, vouchers, and nutritional services, starting this month.
In Gaza, the situation is equally dire, with 1.5 million people relying on WFP support. The agency is also reducing cash assistance for around 75,000 families there, with aid value for 375,000 people slashed by 40% since July. The WFP estimates that 900,000 individuals in the West Bank face food insecurity.
With a pressing need for $386 million over the next six months to aid two million food-insecure individuals, WFP's Country Director for Palestine, Shaun Hughes, has called for immediate international support.
