US Scrutinizes Claims of Missile Strike on Iranian Wedding

The ongoing tensions between the US and Iran have escalated following allegations that a missile strike may have inadvertently hit a wedding ceremony in southern Iran, resulting in multiple fatalities including children. Vice-President JD Vance confirmed that the US military is looking into the claims made by Iranian authorities.
On Tuesday, the Iranian Red Crescent Society reported that shrapnel from a missile struck a wedding in Sirik, killing at least four individuals, among them two minors. Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei condemned the incident as a "war crime." This incident allegedly coincided with US missile strikes targeting locations in response to Iranian attacks on American forces.
Vance expressed significant doubt regarding the reports, highlighting the reliability of Iranian state media as questionable. He stated, "I’m extremely skeptical of this," during a briefing at the White House. While the US Central Command maintained that their operations are designed to avoid civilian casualties, Iran has retaliated with attacks on US bases in Kuwait and the UAE.
According to the IRCS, the missile strike also left 67 people injured. The deceased have been identified as Zarkhatoon Taheri, Kolsum Mallahi Nazhdnia, Mohammad Mallahi, and Amirali Karimi, the latter being only four years old. Images shared by the IRCS purportedly depict the destruction at the wedding site, with additional footage corroborating the damage to nearby structures.
