Uzbekistan's New Museum Celebrates a Sacred Manuscript

The newly inaugurated Islamic Civilization Center in Tashkent showcases the Uthman Quran, a remarkable seventh-century manuscript displayed under a breathtaking 213-foot dome. This centerpiece is complemented by lapis-lazuli-inlaid steps and walls adorned with elegant Portuguese pink marble.

Visitors are greeted by eight handwoven silk carpets, each intricately inscribed with Quranic verses, while the hall is safeguarded by vigilant guards. A dazzling sound-and-light show featuring over a million Swarovski crystals transforms the space into a mesmerizing environment.

Opened in March, the center serves not only as a museum but also as a research library and digital learning hub, spotlighting Uzbekistan’s rich history from its pre-Islamic roots to its modern era. The exhibitions feature rare artifacts, such as a 10th-century Samanid silver tray and pieces of Baburid armor, underlining Uzbekistan's role as a historical crossroads of culture and intellect.
