Vaughan Criticizes Ashes Ticket Price Surge Ahead of 2024 Tests

Michael Vaughan, the former England cricket captain, has expressed strong disapproval over a 43% hike in ticket prices for the upcoming men's Ashes Test at Edgbaston, calling the increase "really poor." The third Test of the series, set for July 8, 2024, will see tickets in the Hollies Stand priced at £165, a significant jump from last year's £115.

While members can secure tickets for £92, the cheapest adult tickets for the initial three days will still cost £115, with a £2.50 booking fee added to each purchase. Vaughan's comments on social media reflect growing concerns about the affordability of sporting events, especially after the recent 2-2 draw in the 2023 series.

The ticket ballot for the 2027 Ashes has already opened, and prices are even steeper at venues like Lord's and the Oval, where top tickets reach £190 and £185, respectively. This follows a trend seen across various sports, where fans have voiced frustration over rising costs, such as the £150 tickets for the women's 100m event at the recent European Athletics Championships.
