Since moving to the UK in 2000 and returning briefly to the islands, Anderson has been involved in a relationship with an islander since 2014. His decision to pursue Argentine documentation for his partner's daughter is not based on a parental link but rather her birthplace, as Argentine law recognizes births in the islands as occurring on national territory. This legal framework is contentious, given the ongoing sovereignty dispute between Argentina and the UK over the islands.

The situation is further complicated by Argentina's recent actions against companies involved in oil projects in the region and the firm stance of British Prime Minister Andy Burnham regarding the rights of the islanders to retain their British citizenship.
