We Are Pi and Butterfly Effect Launch Unique Interrail Campaign

By Editor • September 14, 2026 • 2 min read

In a refreshing departure from traditional travel advertising, We Are Pi, in collaboration with Butterfly Effect, has unveiled a campaign for Interrail that captures the essence of journeying through Europe. The new campaign aims to resonate with potential travelers by portraying the authentic emotions and experiences that define the travel journey.

Breaking the Mold of Travel Advertising

Typical travel advertisements often feature picturesque landscapes, perfect smiles, and catchy yet vague slogans. However, We Are Pi recognized the need to bridge the gap between prospective travelers and the unfamiliar experiences that come with exploring foreign countries. Tasked with promoting Interrail, the consultancy also aimed to consolidate the brands, merging Eurail into the Interrail identity following the recent rebranding of the company.

The Interrail Effect: A Journey Beyond the Destination

Central to the campaign is the concept of 'The Interrail Effect,' which challenges the perception that faster travel is inherently better. Instead, it emphasizes the enrichments that come from slower, more immersive journeys. An insightful survey revealed that approximately 70% of Interrail customers felt their travels had profoundly altered their worldviews, with many deeming their experiences more significant than other travel forms.

Engaging Visuals and Creator Collaboration

The campaign's striking launch poster features a stylized map of Europe with a yellow line illustrating a train route. Rather than depicting cities as stops, the line connects words, culminating in the thought-provoking phrase, "Realising the best bit is between here and there." This design choice compels viewers to engage actively with the message. Accompanying this visual campaign are short videos created by 30 influencers from various countries, sharing their Interrail experiences and striking a balance between casual vlogs and polished films.

Özlem Birkalan, Interrail's chief brand and commercial officer, aptly summarizes the campaign's essence: 'The Interrail Effect' isn't something we invented… What's changing is that we're finally building the brand around it.' Launched globally on September 10, the campaign will utilize various channels, including social media, paid media, and partnerships to reach a broad audience.
