Whistles Celebrates 50 Years by Showcasing Everyday Women in Unique Campaign

By Editor • September 10, 2026 • 2 min read

This year marks a milestone for British fashion brand Whistles as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. Instead of relying on traditional models, the brand has opted for a refreshing approach by casting 50 women aged 19 to 72, discovered through cryptic guerrilla posters scattered around London.

The posters, created by the London creative agency Weirdo, called for 'open-minded women' without any mention of the brand. The response was overwhelming, with over 2,000 replies pouring in from women eager to share their interpretations of open-mindedness. Whistles and Weirdo carefully selected 50 participants, most of whom had never modeled before, capturing their essence in a photoshoot that took place in a single day.

A Unique Approach to Casting

Among the chosen women are a BAFTA-winning documentary filmmaker, a mother, and an entrepreneur, all photographed against a simple white backdrop. This stripped-down aesthetic, captured by photographer Alice Neale and filmed by Archi Shah, emphasizes authenticity and relatability over the polished glamour typically seen in fashion campaigns. The result is a two-minute film that launched today across various platforms, including social media and in-store displays.

Rebranding for a New Era

Alongside this campaign, Whistles has redefined its brand identity, now proudly presenting itself as 'Designed for an Open Mind.' The brand introduces a new signature color, Lemonade, and aims to convey a tone that is both sharp and light. Louis Persent, founder of Weirdo, expressed the shift towards more inclusive and genuine marketing strategies, stating, "We're leaving behind rigid top-down campaigns and moving towards projects and commissions."

This fresh perspective comes at a time when Whistles was in danger of being overlooked, as competition from brands like Cos and Uniqlo intensified. However, this innovative campaign not only pays homage to the stories and experiences of women but also rekindles a connection with its audience, reminding them of the brand's longstanding legacy.
