Leadership Shift at Hugo Boss as Chairman Stephan Sturm Resigns Amid Frasers Group's Growing Influence

By Editor • September 14, 2026 • 1 min read

In a significant leadership change at Hugo Boss, Stephan Sturm has announced his resignation as chairman of the supervisory board, a decision prompted by Frasers Group's escalating stake in the company during a fierce takeover bid. The German fashion giant confirmed on Monday that Sturm will continue in his role until a successor is appointed, ensuring a smooth transition for the company.

Sturm's exit comes as Frasers Group, led by retail mogul Mike Ashley, has successfully increased its shareholding to 47.89 percent, edging closer to a potential takeover. Despite an unsuccessful initial offer in June, which was criticized as undervaluing Hugo Boss, the company has remained under pressure as Frasers expresses its intentions to gain full control.

In a statement reflecting on his tenure, Sturm noted the privilege of serving as chairman and emphasized the need for a transition following the recent shifts in shareholder dynamics. Deputy chairman Sinan Piskin acknowledged Sturm's contributions and expressed commitment to supporting the ongoing leadership during this pivotal moment for Hugo Boss.
