Whistles Celebrates 50 Years by Showcasing Real Women in Unique Campaign

By Editor • September 10, 2026 • 1 min read

In a bold move to celebrate its 50th anniversary, the British fashion brand Whistles has tapped into the stories of 50 ordinary women instead of relying on traditional models. This innovative campaign, launched in collaboration with the creative agency Weirdo, features women aged 19 to 72, reflecting a diverse range of experiences and perspectives.

Finding Open-Minded Women

The initiative began with mysterious fly-posters scattered throughout London, inviting responses from those who defined "open-mindedness." The campaign attracted over 2,000 replies, from which Whistles and Weirdo selected 50 women, many of whom had never modeled before. They were photographed in a single day, showcasing Whistles' latest collection against a simple white backdrop.

A Fresh Look for Whistles

Among the women featured are a BAFTA-winning documentary filmmaker, a mother, and an entrepreneur. The resulting film, shot by photographer Alice Neale, emphasizes authenticity and personal stories over glossy fashion imagery. This fresh approach aligns with Whistles' new identity, now branded as "Designed for an Open Mind," and introduces a vibrant signature color named Lemonade.

Louis Persent, founder of Weirdo, stated, "We're leaving behind rigid top-down campaigns and moving towards projects and commissions." This shift marks a commitment to genuine storytelling and community engagement, setting Whistles apart in an industry increasingly dominated by artificial intelligence and mass-produced content.
