Whistles Celebrates 50 Years with Unique Campaign Featuring Real Women

By Editor • September 10, 2026 • 1 min read

British fashion brand Whistles is celebrating its 50th anniversary in a distinctive way, swapping traditional models for 50 women sourced through intriguing guerrilla marketing across London. The campaign highlights the stories of 'open-minded' women aged 19 to 72, showcasing a fresh approach to brand representation.

Innovative Outreach and Casting

The creative agency Weirdo, founded by former athlete Louis Persent, masterminded the campaign. By placing mysterious posters around London inviting women to share their definitions of 'open-mindedness,' Whistles received over 2,000 responses. From this diverse pool, they selected 50 women, most of whom had no previous modeling experience, to be photographed in a single day.

A New Era for Whistles

Photographed against a minimalist backdrop, the women were not only the faces of the campaign but also shared their personal stories, contributing to a two-minute film released across various platforms. The campaign, described as nostalgic and raw, presents a departure from the glossy marketing typical of high fashion. Whistles also unveiled a refreshed brand identity, now embracing the tagline 'Designed for an Open Mind' and introducing a vibrant new color called Lemonade.

Authenticity Over AI

In an industry increasingly leaning towards artificial intelligence for marketing, Whistles and Weirdo emphasize authenticity and real-life experiences. Their strategy includes projects like a summer collection shot in Athens by a group of friends, steering clear of generic and impersonal content. This shift comes at a critical time for Whistles, which has faced competition from brands like Cos and Uniqlo, and aims to reconnect with its audience through honest storytelling.
