In a stunning conclusion to the 2026 Emmy Awards, ‘Widow’s Bay’ clinched the coveted title of Best Comedy Series, marking a historic achievement for first-year shows. This victory not only secured the series a prestigious accolade but also set a new benchmark by accumulating 14 Emmy wins, surpassing the previous record held by ‘The Studio’ with 13 wins last year.

The competition for Best Comedy Series was fierce, featuring notable contenders such as ABC’s ‘Abbott Elementary’, FX/Hulu’s ‘The Bear’, and HBO Max’s ‘Hacks’, which was in its final season. Other nominees included Apple TV’s ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’, Netflix’s ‘Nobody Wants This’, Hulu’s ‘Only Murders In The Building’, and Apple TV’s ‘Shrinking’. ‘Hacks’ made headlines this year by achieving a remarkable 24 nominations, the highest for a single season, while ‘Widow’s Bay’ led among newcomers with 19 nominations.

Last year, ‘The Studio’ dominated the awards scene, winning not only the Best Comedy Series but also 23 nominations, tying for the most nominations ever for a comedy series until ‘Hacks’ broke that record this year. ‘Widow’s Bay’ replaced the final season of ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ in the nominations, demonstrating its strong debut and promising future in the competitive landscape of television comedy.
