World Team Tennis Set for Comeback with New Media Partnership

World Team Tennis (WTT) is gearing up for a major revival, having secured a broadcasting agreement with USA Sports for its upcoming season after a five-year break. Co-founded by tennis legend Billie Jean King in 1974, the mixed-gender league will air matches on CNBC and stream on Fandango, with games scheduled from December 1 to December 15.

The league, which last held a season in November 2021 before the pandemic, is bringing back its city-based team model, featuring clubs like the New York Empire Racquet Club at Barclays Center and the Florida Flamingos Racquet Club at Amerant Bank Arena. A fresh format will include four singles sets and a mixed doubles tiebreaker.

WTT CEO Stephen Amritraj emphasized the league's ambition to blend sports and entertainment, aiming to reach a broader audience. "Versant’s portfolio is uniquely compelling because it allows us to do both," he stated. Celia Kohl, SVP of Strategy & Business Development at Versant, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting the potential for WTT to resonate with viewers on both CNBC and Fandango.
