XDOF, a burgeoning startup specializing in teleoperation data for robot training, is reportedly in advanced discussions to secure a Series B funding round that could value the company at approximately $1.2 billion. This comes less than three months after the company emerged from stealth mode.
Founded by UC Berkeley researchers Philipp Wu and Fred Shentu in 2024, XDOF quickly gained attention with its impressive $70 million Series A funding in June, backed by prominent investors like Thrive Capital and Andreessen Horowitz. The startup had not intended to seek further investment so soon; however, its rapid growth, with annualized revenues nearing $50 million, has drawn interest from venture capitalists.
As XDOF continues to develop its offerings, it aims to create essential data collection tools and annotation systems that are critical for the robotics industry. The company is also collaborating with UC Berkeley's AI Research lab to launch ABC, a massive dataset intended to enhance robot training. To gather this data, XDOF employs both remote teleoperation and human data collectors to document everyday tasks.
