Xolo Maridueña Reflects on Blue Beetle's Return in Superman Sequel

Xolo Maridueña, who made his mark as Blue Beetle in 2023, had doubts about reprising his role until he received an unexpected call from DC's James Gunn. While in Japan with friends, he was stunned to see Gunn's name pop up on his phone. "I had to leave the room to take the call," Maridueña recounted at the Los Angeles premiere of "Practical Magic 2." He shared the exciting news, stating, "Off the record, don’t tell anyone, but we’re coming back."

The actor expressed his gratitude for the chance to return to the DC Universe, admitting that the uncertainty of the industry often leaves actors feeling vulnerable. "There’s never a guarantee with anything," he said, reflecting on the unpredictable nature of Hollywood. "I am just the most humbled of James and the greater DC team for folding us in, Indiana Jones style."

In the upcoming film, "Superman: Man of Tomorrow," Blue Beetle joins forces with Superman and Lex Luthor to confront the formidable Brainiac. The sequel, which follows 2025’s "Superman," features David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult reprising their roles. Meanwhile, Maridueña also shared his excitement about working alongside stars like Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman in "Practical Magic 2," which is set for release on September 11.
