On February 28, more than 50 members of the Faculty in various disciplines were convened for the Yale forum on climate change and health, organized by Yale Planetary Solutions and Yale Center on climate change and health, or YCCCH.
The forum, organized in the Conferences Room of the Sterling Memorial Library and with YCCCH speakers, discussed the history of Yale’s climate and health participation and touched the recent achievements. YCCCH Executive Director Jen Wang organized the forum with the directors of YCCCh co-procurers, Dr. Robert Dubrow and Dr. Kai Chen. The forum celebrated ten years from the center.
“We had two main objectives: gather the Faculty of Yale throughout the university to learn about the work of others in climate change and health, build relationships and promote collaboration for future external financing proposals, [and] To celebrate 10 years of YCCCH and reintroduce the center to the Yale community as a leader, convening and thought partner about climate change and health research at Yale and beyond, “Jennifer Wang wrote to the news.
Wang joined the University in 2023 and assumed the position of YCCCH Executive Director. It is co-instructor at a public health school and the cross course of the School of the Environment, “Clinic of Climate Justice and Public Health”, which provides practical experiences for student teams to work on community projects or committed to interested parties.
According to Wang, this was the first time that the faculty has met for a forum. His demand came to celebrate “the great history in research, education and politics” and “to reinvitate the community of the Faculty of Yale to explore collaborations with us.”
“We were very satisfied with the participation of many parts of the university,” said Dubrow, founding director and co-professor of YCCCH.
He estimates that, throughout the day, they attended more than 50 members of the Faculty, including public health schools, medicine, nursing, environment and architecture, faculty of arts and sciences and the provost’s office.
The collaboration between the Yale medical and climate change communities has increased in recent years, according to Dubrow.
Climate change and health concentration for Masters of Public Health have had 27 graduates since it was established in 2020, according to Dubrow, and more than 800 professionals working in 66 countries completed the program of climate certificates and online climatic changes. The students of the Climate Justice and Public Health Clinic have carried out 41 projects since the course began in 2017.
YCCCH also has an association funded by the CDCs with the Department of Public Health of Connecticut to participate in local plans for the preparation and response of air and air quality.
“The center of Yale about climate change and health is promoting collaboration efforts in multiple disciplines to address the impacts on the health of climate change,” said YCCCH Cristina Arnés Sanz MPH ’25: “He was very inspiring to witness the teachers of several Yale schools gathering in the forum with a shared commitment to break the silus and innovative research.
In 2020, YCCCH adapted from the Climate Yale Change and Health Initiative, which was created in 2015.
