A Menagerie of Animal Sculptures by 50+ Artists Populate ‘The Ark’
The exhibition titled The Ark at Powerhouse Arts features over 90 sculptures and installations by more than 50 artists, exploring themes of environmental and social upheaval. Curated by Eric Fischl, the show references the biblical Deluge and questions humanity’s care for the planet amid the climate crisis.
Notable artists include Kiki Smith, Wangechi Mutu, and Maurizio Cattelan, with works crafted from various materials such as wood, stone, and bronze. The exhibition is designed to evoke a range of emotions, from joy to grief, and invites visitors to engage with the pieces in a post-industrial setting near a Superfund site.
The Ark is currently on display in Brooklyn and will run through August 30, aiming to foster connections with nature rather than solely focusing on environmental urgency.
