Amanda Kernell’s upcoming film, "Brace Your Heart," takes a powerful stance on resilience, showcasing a survivor’s journey rather than portraying a victim. Kernell, celebrated for her previous works "Sámi Blood" and "Charter," emphasizes that while some individuals may struggle to recover from trauma, others can find hope and light amid darkness.
The story follows Ejva, who inherits her father’s reindeer herd after his unexpected passing. With the local leader Heaika as her only support, Ejva must navigate difficult choices, including her feelings for Heaika's cousin, which complicate her already challenging circumstances.
Set to debut at both the Toronto and San Sebastián film festivals, the film was previously titled "The Curse: A Love Story." Kernell shared her evolution in focus, stating, "I’m more interested in liberation than a curse." The film features Elli Sara Valkeapää in the lead role and is produced by Eva ? kergren for Nordisk Film Production, alongside several co-producers.
