AMC Ventures into Smaller Film Distribution with Leawood Films

By Editor • August 31, 2026 • 1 min read

AMC Entertainment is set to broaden its horizons by launching Leawood Films, a new distribution arm aimed at showcasing smaller films from both seasoned and emerging filmmakers. This initiative comes in response to the changing landscape of movie production, particularly following the pandemic and the recent labor strikes that have left theaters craving fresh content.

Unlike its blockbuster counterparts, Leawood Films will prioritize small to mid-budget projects, aiming to fill the void left by traditional studios. AMC CEO Adam Aron emphasized that this venture is designed to complement existing partnerships with major studios rather than compete with them.

In a statement, Aron noted, "This is a modestly scaled initiative focused on taking to the big screen films that are fully financed by their filmmakers." The new label will not only distribute films in AMC theaters but also seeks to convince other theater owners to participate.

While specifics on the film slate are yet to be revealed, Leawood Films is expected to debut its offerings in theaters around 2027 or 2028, with a commitment to ensuring filmmakers retain the majority of revenue after theatrical runs.
