Ann Veronica Janssens Unveils Ethereal Exhibition at Hermès Ginza

In a groundbreaking solo exhibition, renowned artist Ann Veronica Janssens is transforming Le Forum at Ginza Maison Hermès in Tokyo into an immersive experience that challenges perceptions of light and space. Opening on September 11, 2026, the exhibition, titled 5 Chome 4-1 Ginza, Tokyo, features over ten installations that explore the intangible elements of art, including air, time, and perception.

Janssens, who hails from Folkestone and is now based in Brussels, has spent decades pushing the boundaries of what constitutes an artwork. Her recent focus on light, sound, and artificial fog has led to installations that manipulate the viewer's sense of reality. Instead of traditional objects, her works invite audiences to engage with the environment, creating a fluid interaction between the observer and the observed.

Among the standout pieces is Rose (2007), where beams of light pierce through suspended particles, creating a solidified illusion of light. Another captivating installation, Untitled (blue glitter), features micro-glitter that captures and reflects movement, making the space dynamic and ever-changing.

Perhaps the most interactive is Swings (2000–2023), a series of suspended seats that respond to touch, encouraging visitors to become part of the artwork. Janssens eschews the notion of passive observation, urging participants to engage with the art actively.

The exhibition's title references its precise Tokyo location, underscoring the interplay between fixed points and fluid perceptions.
