Brompton's Brand Revamp: A Factory-Focused Approach by Studio Blackburn

By Editor • August 19, 2026 • 1 min read

Brompton, the iconic folding bike manufacturer, sought a revitalized global brand platform, and Studio Blackburn took an innovative route by heading straight to the factory floor.

With a legacy dating back to 1975, Brompton's bicycles have garnered a loyal following, making it unnecessary for Studio Blackburn to inject interest into the brand. Instead, their mission was to amplify the existing affection cyclists have for Brompton worldwide.

One of Studio Blackburn's first significant moves was to retain the brand's well-known logo and triptych symbol, showing confidence in the brand's identity rather than changing it unnecessarily. The challenge lay in its application across different markets, where the absence of a complete character set led to inconsistencies in branding.

To address this, they collaborated with type designer Sam White to create Brompton Slab, a bespoke headline typeface designed for clarity and legibility in various languages. The launch of this typeface took a creative turn when the team crafted oversized metal letters directly at the Greenford factory, providing striking visuals that seamlessly connected the typeface to its origins.

At the heart of this branding initiative is the phrase 'Life Unfolded,' which reflects the unique nature of Brompton's folding bikes and the adventures they offer. The design integrates motion principles inspired by the bikes' mechanics, alongside a signature color, Brompton Blue, which ties the branding together while allowing flexibility for special collaborations.
