Brussels Blooms with a Dahlia Tribute to Hokusai

Brussels' Grand-Place has transformed into a vibrant floral spectacle, showcasing a stunning tribute to the renowned Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. This year's Flower Carpet event, running from August 13 to 16, celebrates 160 years of Belgium-Japan friendship with artist Hiro Sugiyama's creation, titled "Neo Hokusai."

Featuring over 750,000 fresh dahlias across nearly 14,000 square feet, the artwork reimagines Hokusai's iconic woodblock print, "The Great Wave Off Kanagawa," in striking hues of magenta, vermilion, and yellow. The intricate design is framed with detailed patterns, with dahlias making up about 80% of the composition.
