At Monterey Car Week's prestigious event, The Quail, Bugatti showcased the Destrier, an exclusive one-off vehicle that marks a significant addition to its Programme Solitaire. This bespoke creation, built upon the engineering of the Bolide hypercar, breaks new ground in automotive design.
The Destrier, standing just one meter tall, boasts the lowest silhouette ever produced by Bugatti. Its striking presence is further accentuated by 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels, showcasing a design that prioritizes aesthetic beauty over aerodynamic features. This departure from the Bolide's racing-oriented aesthetic embraces a cleaner, sculptural form.
Drawing inspiration from Bugatti's rich history, the Destrier reflects a lineage similar to the 1930s Type 57 chassis, which supported a variety of designs. Inside, the car’s transformation is pronounced. Where the Bolide’s interior was focused on racing functionality, the Destrier elevates luxury with materials like Ambre Voyageur leather and a unique 3D-knitted textile, creating an inviting ambiance.
The exterior, adorned in Sapphire Celeste paint with polished aluminum accents, integrates a subtle rear wing, blending functionality with elegance. The design ethos behind the Destrier showcases Bugatti's commitment to individuality and craftsmanship, as it navigates the delicate balance between maintaining the Bolide's formidable engineering while embracing a distinct identity.
With the Destrier, Bugatti continues its tradition of exquisite coachbuilding under Programme Solitaire, allowing a select few clients to enjoy highly personalized vehicles. This marks the third project in this exclusive line, following the Brouillard and F.K.P. Hommage, further solidifying Bugatti's position at the pinnacle of automotive design.
