In the wake of a devastating earthquake that recently shook Colombia, artist Danna Gutiérrez, known as Gallina Clueka, has turned her creative focus towards a collection of hand-pinched ceramics that reflects her response to the world around her. Based in Bogota, Gutiérrez's work transcends traditional boundaries, merging drawing with tactile ceramics to create meaningful vessels that resonate with her experiences.

From Drawing to Dimension

Gutiérrez's artistic journey began in Cali, Colombia, evolving into a multidisciplinary project that treats drawing not as an endpoint but as a launchpad for diverse creations. Her ceramics, which she has developed over the past five years, are shaped mainly through the pinch technique, allowing her to leave traces of her touch in the clay. "The marks from my fingers remain in the clay, and I feel that this creates a connection with my drawings," she explains, highlighting the intimate relationship between her two forms of art.

Each collection, or "drop," released by Gallina Clueka is themed, often inspired by her surroundings and emotions. Her latest collection, titled El mundo ("The World"), features white ceramic jars adorned with red circles and phrases like 'The Light of the World.' This collection was unexpectedly shaped by the earthquake, leading Gutiérrez to realize that her art had been subconsciously responding to the ongoing crisis. "It makes me think that the dogs searching for people and other animals are these dogs," she reflects, drawing parallels between her work and the acts of kindness witnessed during the disaster.

Future Directions and Collaborations

Looking ahead, Gutiérrez plans to expand her artistic horizons through a printmaking residency and aims to foster collaborative projects with fellow artists. She expresses a desire to re-engage with her creativity in new ways, emphasizing the importance of collective creation in art. "I'm very interested in that exchange and in everything that can emerge when making is no longer something individual," she states, promising an exciting evolution for her work.
