The 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) is set to honor the late Korean cinema icon Ahn Sung-ki with a special program titled "Those Beautiful Years, Ahn Sung-ki." This tribute, featuring a selection of six films from Ahn's illustrious career, highlights his contributions from the 1980s and 1990s, including titles like "A Fine, Windy Day" and "Festival." Each screening will be enriched by appearances from Ahn's longtime collaborators, including directors and fellow actors.
In a significant move, the festival's Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM) has named Thailand as its inaugural Country of Honor for 2026. This new partnership aims to enhance international visibility for Thai films, building on the longstanding connections between Thailand and South Korea’s film markets. Chookiat Sakveerakul, head of the Thai Film Directors Association, expressed pride in this recognition, which he believes will foster greater collaboration and exposure for Thai content.
