EastEnders' Shane Richie Faces Drink-Driving Trial After Essex Arrest

Shane Richie, the actor famed for his role as Alfie Moon on the beloved soap EastEnders, is set to go to trial after pleading not guilty to drink-driving charges stemming from an incident at a petrol station in Essex.
The 62-year-old, whose real name is Shane Roche, made a virtual appearance at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. He was arrested on July 29 while driving a white Hyundai in Church Langley Way, Harlow, Essex. At the time of his arrest, police reported that Richie had a breath alcohol level of 65 micrograms per 100 millilitres, significantly over the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
During the court session, Richie confirmed his personal details and entered his plea. He briefly lost connection during the proceedings but returned to apologize, explaining he was in a hotel up north. Deputy District Judge Christopher Maynard granted him bail until his trial, which is scheduled for November 17, 2027. As he concluded the video link, Richie cheerfully bid farewell to the court.
