By Editor • August 20, 2026 • 1 min read

Charter Communications has officially completed its acquisition of Cox Communications and Liberty Broadband, a significant move that consolidates their power in the cable industry.

The monumental $34.5 billion merger, first announced in May 2025 and recently approved by the FCC, positions Charter as a dominant force, now serving more than 6 million new subscribers from Cox.

Chris Winfrey, Charter’s president and CEO, expressed enthusiasm over the merger, noting it not only enhances their broadband and video services but also expands their reach across 45 states. He emphasized that this merger allows them to deliver superior products and customer service.

Eric Zinterhofer, former chairman of Charter’s board, congratulated the team on this major milestone, while John Malone, chair of Liberty Broadband, highlighted the strategic nature of their investment, aimed at fostering innovation and competition.

As part of the integration, Cox Communications will take on a new identity, operating under the Spectrum brand. Charter plans to introduce a suite of services to former Cox customers, including a year of complimentary mobile service for those new to Cox Mobile.

Looking ahead, Spectrum aims to roll out its products to all consumers in former Cox markets by mid-September, promising straightforward pricing and enhanced savings opportunities.
