The Jharkhand CID has intensified its investigation into a recruitment examination scandal by arresting Sushma Kumari and Akshay Tiwari, the wife and brother of Abhay Tiwari, a central figure in the case. The arrests occurred on August 18, 2026, following lengthy interrogations at the agency's office.
A former block supply officer in Godda, Abhay Tiwari was apprehended on July 22 after officials linked him to multiple irregularities involving competitive examinations. Over the past 13 years, Tiwari reportedly passed around 12 examinations, including prestigious tests for police, the Navy, and various government positions.
During the interrogation, Tiwari disclosed that candidates used different "rate charts" to qualify for exams, with fees ranging from ₹2 lakh to ₹70 lakh. In addition to his arrests, the CID has summoned Sudhir Gupta, secretary of the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), for questioning based on evidence gathered during a recent raid on the JSSC office.
In response to mounting pressure from student protests, the Jharkhand government announced the cancellation of the JSSC-Combined Graduate Level examination and nullified results from outsourced agency TDPL, bringing the total number of arrests connected to this scandal to 22.
