IAEA Discovers Significant Nuclear Materials in Syria

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, reported that several tons of nuclear materials have been located at a previously undisclosed site in Syria.

During a press conference in Damascus, Syria's Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani emphasized that the materials pose no danger and are intended for peaceful use. He asserted Syria's right to maintain and utilize these materials under IAEA oversight.

Following the removal of President Bashar al-Assad in late 2024, the new Syrian authorities have expressed their commitment to collaborating with the IAEA to resolve past nuclear activity issues.
