Richard and Sophie have turned their new Montreal apartment into a vibrant reflection of their personalities, thanks to designer Luke Havekes. Nestled on the 27th floor with sweeping views of the city’s historic harbor, the space initially lacked warmth and character, presenting a blank canvas that begged for creativity.

Havekes set out to infuse life into the clean interiors by introducing a palette of warm hues and unique decor. The designer’s bold decision to abandon white walls led to a playful array of colors that envelop the apartment, creating an inviting atmosphere. “When my clients came home after a 12-hour flight and saw the yellow in the main room, they were a little shocked,” Havekes recounted, highlighting how the couple ultimately embraced the vibrant design.

Key areas, such as the dining room, now feature a striking yellow-and-red rug, while quirky art pieces and contemporary furnishings add personality throughout. The designer also opted for Venetian plaster over the cold, exposed concrete ceilings, enriching the space’s texture and warmth.

Animal-inspired decor enhances the playful vibe, with touches like a zebra bench in the hallway and cheetah-print pillows in the powder-pink bedroom. The couple also made a significant life change during the redesign, choosing to convert an office into a nursery while maintaining the bright tangerine theme. This decision reflected Havekes’s philosophy that contemporary spaces can be both sophisticated and cozy.
