Court Clears Pensioner of Charges for Shooting at Drones

By Editor • August 20, 2026 • 1 min read

The Volgograd Regional Court has dismissed charges against Nikolai Mukhin, a pensioner fined for attempting to shoot down Ukrainian drones over his property. The court ruled under Article 24.5 of Russia’s Administrative Offenses Code, which applies to actions taken in urgent necessity.

Mukhin had used a single-barreled shotgun in his defense but was initially fined 40,000 rubles by a local court for discharging a firearm outside a designated area. His appeal was rejected, but support from Kursk region Governor Alexander Khinshtein highlighted that Russian law allows citizens to use weapons when protecting their life and property during emergencies.

The court has ordered the return of Mukhin's confiscated shotgun following its ruling.
