Deadly Gang Violence Claims 30 Lives in Haiti's Kenscoff

A brutal gang attack in Kenscoff, a community south of Port-au-Prince, has left at least 30 individuals dead, as violence escalates in Haiti. The assault occurred late on Sunday, coinciding with the nation’s hopes for its first general election in over ten years.
Mayor Jean Massillon reported that armed assailants wreaked havoc, setting homes ablaze and targeting a local church and the residence of prominent public health figure Jean William Pape. The gang, identified as Viv Ansanm, was labeled a "foreign terrorist organization" by the U.S. last year.
Despite a United Nations-backed force intended to combat gang activity, Haiti remains plagued by insecurity, with gangs controlling approximately 70% of Port-au-Prince. Recent data shows over 1.5 million people displaced due to ongoing violence, raising concerns over the feasibility of upcoming elections.
