Diesel Prices Plummet While Petrol Rates Climb

By Editor • August 19, 2026 • 1 min read

The government has made significant adjustments to fuel prices, slashing the cost of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs32.63 per litre while increasing petrol by Rs2.97 per litre. As of August 20, petrol will be priced at Rs337.51 per litre, with HSD now at Rs363.06 per litre.

This latest change comes after HSD prices peaked at Rs520.35 on April 3, following a steep rise from Rs281 amid the US-Iran conflict. Petrol also saw a surge, reaching Rs458.41 during the same period after starting at Rs266 in early March.

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced that fuel prices will now be determined daily, responding to fluctuations in the global market. This shift aims to provide better alignment with international trends, especially in light of ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
