Director of 'Voice of Hind Rajab' Decries Israeli Military Probe as Deceptive

By Editor • August 22, 2026 • 1 min read

Kaouther Ben Hania, the director behind the Oscar-nominated film The Voice of Hind Rajab, has sharply criticized the Israeli military's recent announcement of an investigation into the tragic death of 5-year-old Palestinian girl, Hind Rajab. In a passionate Instagram post, she described the probe as a mere 'smokescreen,' questioning the lengthy two-year delay in addressing the incident.

Ben Hania pointed to abundant evidence available for over two years, including independent investigations and even the poignant recordings of Hind herself describing the Israeli tanks surrounding her. 'What more did we need?' she asked, highlighting the absurdity of waiting for the accused to initiate an investigation.

Wesam Hamada, Hind's mother, echoed Ben Hania's sentiments, expressing skepticism about the military’s intentions. She called for an independent investigation, criticizing the belated acknowledgment of the shooting that claimed the lives of Hind and other family members. 'It’s an attempt to distract from what’s happening in Gaza and improve the army’s image,' she stated.

As the Israeli military faces increasing scrutiny for its actions, both Ben Hania and Hamada demand justice not only for Hind but for all victims of ongoing violence in Gaza.
