End of an Era: Columbia House to Close Its Doors

By Editor • August 17, 2026 • 1 min read

Columbia House, the iconic mail-order music service founded in 1955, is set to cease operations permanently. As of September 15, 2026, the company will stop accepting new orders, although existing customers can still purchase books using their credits.

Originally known as the Columbia Record Club, it gained immense popularity in the 1990s, boasting 16 million members due to its enticing offers and memorable commercials. However, after struggling with ownership changes and legal troubles, including bankruptcy in 2015, it shifted focus from music to DVDs.
