Enhanced Games Struggle: A $60 Million Loss for Tech-Driven Sports Event

By Editor • August 20, 2026 • 1 min read

The Enhanced Games, a controversial sports competition that allowed athletes to use performance-enhancing drugs, has not only faced criticism for its concept but has also suffered substantial financial losses. The event, likened to the 'steroid Olympics,' took place in Las Vegas in May and was organized by the Enhanced Group, a telehealth company with backing from figures like Peter Thiel.

Despite the hype surrounding the event, which aimed to revolutionize organized sports, it fell flat with only one world record broken, in swimming. The company's recent earnings report revealed a staggering nearly $62 million net loss in the second quarter, primarily attributed to the costly event's hosting.

Founded in 2023, the Enhanced Group went public earlier this year with a valuation of $1.2 billion, focusing on personalized health treatments through a digital platform. However, the majority of its reported $17.7 million revenue came from sponsorships linked to the Enhanced Games, raising concerns about the sustainability of its core telehealth business.

The report casts doubt on claims that the Enhanced Games would become an annual fixture, as the company faces the challenge of either significantly increasing revenue or accepting continued financial losses. In response, Enhanced Group is pivoting, announcing a new online series called Enhanced Breakers, which promises to be more cost-effective while still engaging audiences and sponsors.

Meanwhile, the broader peptide industry continues to thrive, fueled by favorable regulatory changes from the FDA, despite ongoing debates over safety and efficacy. Silicon Valley remains a hotbed for peptide startups, with companies eager to capitalize on the growing trend of biohacking and health supplements.
