Italy is set to enhance its allure for travelers starting October 2026 with three newly unveiled train journeys that cater to history aficionados, design lovers, and culinary explorers. These scenic routes promise to deliver a unique blend of luxury, culture, and tantalizing Italian cuisine amidst the backdrop of the country's stunning landscapes.
The first journey, launched by Accor’s Orient Express La Dolce Vita, spans five days and four nights, beginning in Rome and concluding in Istanbul. Passengers will experience the enchanting cities of Venice and Budapest along the way. The luxury train departs Rome in the evening, allowing travelers to unwind with an aperitivo as they enjoy the Tuscan sunset. The next morning, they will awaken in Venice, where a private water taxi will take them through the city's iconic waterways. The itinerary includes a visit to Hungary's historic squares and a journey across the Carpathian Mountains, highlighting Transylvania's famed castles before reaching Istanbul. Onboard, the train features exquisite dining curated by Michelin-starred chef Heinz Beck, live music, and elegant accommodations, with prices starting at £17,000 for the first departure on October 22, 2026.
The second journey, offered by Belmond, combines a night aboard the Venice-Simplon Orient Express with a two-night stay at the luxurious Splendido hotel in Portofino. Departing Paris, the train travels through Burgundy and along the French Riviera, concluding in Portofino. As guests savor Champagne, gourmet dinners, and artisanal cocktails aboard the train, they will eventually enjoy a gala dinner at Splendido’s restaurant overlooking the Gulf of Tigullio. This exclusive journey runs from October 15-18, 2026, with fares starting at approximately £17,400.
Lastly, FS Treini Touristi introduces the “Truffle and Wine” route, a delightful experience for food enthusiasts. This vintage train ride from Milan to Alba, famous for its white truffles, offers a scenic view of Piedmont’s rolling hills. Passengers will enjoy a leisurely 3.5-hour ride in beautifully restored 1970s carriages, complete with tastings of local delicacies. Timed to coincide with the International Alba White Truffle Fair running from October 10 to December 6, 2026, this roundtrip journey allows travelers to immerse themselves in the region's culinary culture, with one-way fares starting at about £60.
