Fujifilm Holdings is ramping up its production of critical semiconductor materials, responding to the increased demand driven by artificial intelligence and data center expansions. The Tokyo-based company recently inaugurated a new fabrication facility in Oita Prefecture, which aims to triple the output of post-CMP cleaners, vital for maintaining wafer cleanliness after chemical-mechanical polishing.
With an investment of ¥7 billion ($44 million), Fujifilm anticipates robust growth in the semiconductor market, a key area for the company as it faces stagnation in its traditional office equipment sector. Following disappointing earnings last month, Fujifilm is shifting its focus, aiming to enhance its offerings in semiconductor materials such as CMP slurries and photoresists.
Revenue from this division surged by 25% in the April-June quarter, highlighting its potential as a core business. Additionally, Fujifilm is contemplating separating its legacy office equipment unit to facilitate quicker investment in these emerging sectors, as it seeks to expand its role in the chipmaking supply chain.
