A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck southern Spain near Granada on Tuesday morning, injuring at least three individuals and damaging several structures. The tremor, recorded at a depth of under 10 kilometers, hit around 10:37 local time, approximately six miles south of the historic city.
Residents hurried outdoors, fearing aftershocks, as debris fell onto vehicles. Notable closures included Granada's famous Alhambra palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which will remain shut for the day.
According to Alfonso Malpica, who experienced the quake firsthand, it felt more intense than usual, while lab worker Cristina Ruiz Lopez described the chaos at a supermarket as "terrifying." To ensure safety, local metro services reduced train speeds, anticipating potential delays.
