Hong Kong Lawmaker Advocates for Business Expansion into Emerging Markets

In light of recent disruptions in U.S. immigrant visa appointments, a Hong Kong legislator is urging local businesses to broaden their horizons. Jonathan Lamport, representing the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) in the Legislative Council, emphasized the importance of venturing into emerging markets such as the Middle East, ASEAN bloc, and Central Asia.

Lamport's remarks come as the geopolitical landscape becomes increasingly uncertain, suggesting that diversifying overseas operations could mitigate risks associated with reliance on traditional Western markets. He stated, “The visa uncertainty reinforced the need for companies to broaden their overseas presence.”
