Imran Khan Transferred to Hospital Amid Health Concerns

By Editor • August 18, 2026 • 1 min read

Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, has been ordered by the Supreme Court to be transferred from prison to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad due to serious health concerns. This decision follows persistent appeals from Khan's family and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, which expressed worries over his deteriorating condition during his three-year incarceration.

At 73, Khan has faced multiple convictions that he claims are politically motivated, stemming from his ouster in 2022. His sons have voiced concerns about their father's health, particularly noting significant vision loss in his right eye. Justice Shahid Waheed, presiding over the three-judge panel, emphasized the need to safeguard the health and safety of the imprisoned leader.

The court has mandated that Khan receive care from a medical panel comprising various specialists, including a cardiologist and an eye expert, until September 16. PTI's spokesperson welcomed the ruling, highlighting a desire for earlier intervention to prevent further deterioration of Khan's health. Meanwhile, the court has instructed Khan's supporters to refrain from gathering outside the hospital.

As Khan’s family seeks to visit him, his younger son, Kasim, has urged the government to allow their entry into Pakistan, emphasizing that their father's health is their primary concern. Since his removal from power, Khan has faced a variety of legal challenges, with numerous protests erupting in response to his imprisonment. His party, PTI, continues to maintain a strong following despite being stripped of its election symbol ahead of the upcoming 2024 elections.
